Fatherhood Initiative
Programs are being developed to help fathers prepare or enhance the relationship that they have with their children. Boot Camp for New Dads Preparing fathers for the life they are about to lead can be a challenging experience, but the best place to learn is from those that have been there. Boot Camp for New Dads takes fathers through basic training on the challenges and joys that come from having a baby. Local hospitals are hosting the program and are having amazing success and interest in the program. Check the website or call your local hospital for the location nearest you. The challenge of raising a baby is an adventure itself, but as the child continues to grow new challenges arise. Many times fathers feel isolated and alone. Foundations of Fatherhood increases awareness that you are not alone. Challenges always develop with children and Foundations of Fatherhood makes aware the impact your lifestyle has on your child. Once you realize how your lifestyle affects your child, you may need support in changing your lifestyle or just need help with a current situation. When times like this arise you need to have a peer group to support and council you. Father Matters is a program that develops peer groups and allows men to share information in a confidential and confident manner. The importance of being a dad many times is overlooked and undervalued. Identifing the strengths and values that a father provides to their children is what Accepting the Challenges of Fatherhood is all about. You learn the benefits of having a mom and a dad involved in raising children. There is also an opportunity to get dads to step up to the plate and overcome the obstacles that keep so many men from being involved in raising their children. How does my lifestyle and care for my body affect my child? Learn how by attending the 24/7 Dad training. Self-Awareness, and caring for self are the main points to focus on in this program. Once a dad is able to take care of himself and maintain a healthy lifestyle then he is ready to take care of his children.. For more information on any of these programs please contact the Fatherhood Coordinator.
