Program Locations
Head Start Centers, Home based and Center based are located throughout the 17 counties that Head Start serves.
Mid's Head Start Central Office operates both home-based and center-based Head Start programs. Which program option is determined by a comprehensive community assessment based on population, percentage of low-income families and community resources.
The Home-based model uses the family's home as the learning environment. Services are delivered through the combination of four basic strategies: Weekly home visits, group socialization activities, focus on parent education, and community outreach. The family educators serve as facilitators, educators, and support systems for parents and families, and as important links to the local community.
The Center-based model uses the classroom as the learning environment. Services are delivered through the following strategies: focus on pre-school education (a.m. and p.m. sessions), initial and mid year home visits, twice a year parent/staff conferences, monthly educational family night activities, parenting classes, and community outreach.
Head Start teachers and teacher assistants teach the children basic child interaction and lessons appropriate for their age. However teachers are always open for help in the classroom. If you are interested in being a volunteer for your child's classroom or a regular community volunteer please contact the center nearest you and ask how you can help.
